For those of us who want the features of a high-quality HDTV, whether LCD or plasma, without having to break the bank, Hitachi is one of the best choices, providing value for one's money without compromising great picture and audio quality. With Hitachi's latest range of LCD TVs, called the Ultrathin series, this great viewing experiencing is coupled with a modern and stylish design sensibility. The Ultrathin series is available in 32-inch HD (UT32MH70) and 37- and 42-inch 1080 HD formats (UT37MX70 and UT42MX70, respectively).
Obviously, watching DVD or Blu-Ray movies on your Hitachi Ultrathin LCD TV is one way to take advantage of its features. But what about the watching our Netflix movies and favorite TV series on Hulu, that we often just relegate to our Macbooks? Though Mac has excellent picture and audio quality on its own, wouldn't it be a more satisfying experience to watch those Netflix movies and TV series on Hulu on a large, flat screen TV? It's relatively easy to do just that by connecting your Macbook to your Hitachi TV, especially if you use a VGA cable.
So how do you connect your MacBook to your TV? First, familiarize yourself with the connection ports on both your Macbook and your Hitachi TV. As mentioned, the Macbook's Mini Display Port is used to connect it to a TV or a secondary monitor. It is found on the left-hand side of the Macbook, between the ethernet port and the USB ports (for Macbook basic) or between the firewire port and USB ports (for Macbook Pro).
Next, locate the video connection port on your TV. For Hitachi TVs, especially the newer models such as the Ultrathin series, there are two ports placed unobtrusively underneath the screen, the VGA port and the HDMI port. Since we are using a VGA cable (especially cables made specifically for connecting MacBooks to TVs can be purchased in various sites around the web), we need only concern ourselves with the VGA port. It is the 15-pin D sub input that usually comes in blue.
Once you locate the corresponding ports on both Macbook and TV, connect them with the VGA cable. The end of the cable that plugs into the TV's VGA port has holding screws that you have to tighten to secure the cable properly. Next, connect the audio jack of the cable to the audio output of your MacBook. Then, connect the other audio jack to your TV's audio input.
Now you can turn on your TV and tune it to the video input that matches the input you used. Do this by pressing the RGB or Input button on the remote control. Then, under "Setup/RGB Input" menu, select the "RGB" option. You can now turn on your Macbook. Note that it is important that you turn on the TV first before the Macbook, so that when the latter boots, it can detect and recognize the TV without any hitches. You can also adjust the picture settings by going into the Picture menu (contrast, brightness, color, tint, etc.).
And that's it-within a few seconds, your Macbook desktop will be displayed on your TV screen. You can now enjoy a more complete home theater experience, thanks both to your Hitachi TV and Macbook. You can also use the TV as a secondary monitor by using the mirror mode on your Macbook.
