Description of AION online game

Aion is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG for short. An MMORPG is a type of online computer game that is played with thousands of other players within a virtual game world. The role playing element involves each player creating a character to develop. This character is represented by an "avatar" or "toon" seen by other players in the virtual world. The character takes on a life of it's own as players increase their avatar's stats by defeating game controlled creatures or completing quests to gain experience. Your character can usually be customized and made unique by how you design it, dress it, allocate stat points, and what profession or class you choose.

This is part of the appeal of an MMORPG along with the interactivity it provides with other live players. Players can form groups to go on adventures and complete quests or just to socialize. Special items and in game currency can be sold or traded between players which creates a complete virtual economy. Special gear and items are a big part of most MMORPGs. A lot of games feature a crafting system that allows players to create in game items. This process along with resource gathering further fuels the economy and gives players one more reason to interact with each other.

Most games feature some form of player versus player combat system. This allows players to pit their characters against other live, thinking opponents. Ultima Online is generally considered the first MMORPG to make the genre popular way back in 1997. Since then other games such as EverQuest and World of Warcraft have taken the genre even further.

Aion was first known as Aion: The Tower of Eternity upon it's release in Korea and China. The name was shortened for it's North American release. It will be published by NCsoft and was created by a Korean game developer. NCsoft is known for their other MMORPGs including City of Heroes and Guild Wars. The game features a combined system of player versus environment (PVE) and player versus player (PVP) combat. It also features the ability to fly which will be part of the combat system and not just another travel option like it is in so many other games.

The developers have not only created a beautiful world to look at with Aion, but have also added a detailed mythology and back story for the game to be set in. The game gets it's name from Aion who was a god that ruled over the world of Atreia. The game gives you a wide variety of classes and professions to chose from. Your class will dictate how your character fights and interacts within the game. Your profession is a means of crafting unique items or gathering raw materials. All of the familiar class types are here allowing you to be more of a ranged fighter, magic user, or a melee type of character. The current classes include a mage, sorcerer, and spirit master for the magic users and summoners.

If healing or buffing other players is your thing you can chose to be a cleric, priest, or chanter. Scouts can branch off into stealthy assassins or rangers who use long distance attacks. The melee classes can be further broken down into heavy damage dealers and defensive tank characters like in most other games. You have warrior, gladiator, or Templar to chose from. The resource gathering professions are called "Extract Vitality" and "Extract Aether." The crafting professions will sound more familiar and include weapon smithing, armor smithing, sewing, handiwork, alchemy, and cooking. The game features a number of quests with future expansions planned to add even more along with new territory to explore.

Like other MMORPGs, Aion also has a monthly subscription fee. This fee goes towards running the servers and paying the developers to keep things working smoothly while created fresh new content for the game. The U.S. cost per month is set to be $14.99. Korean gamers can currently purchase time cards. The minimum system requirements needed to play include a fast internet connection, Pentium 4 2.8GHz or AMD Athlon 2800 processor, 1GB of RAM, a Hard Drive with 30 available GB of memory, and DirectX 9.0.
