Healthy juices and juicing techniques


Juicing extracts the fiber from foods, thus making those foods less whole, more refined, and less fit to nourish the body properly. Natural hygienists generally recommend to prevent juicing, and eat whole foods instead.

I tend to trust that as well. But I also think that some vegetable juices can be very helpful and healthy. I do not attribute to them any special "healing powers", but I see their benefits this way: vegetable juices require virtually no digestion and enable you to get the nutrition from vegetables - all those important minerals that you need - in an extremely absorbable form. This can be a excellent help for those with compromised digestion and assimilation.

I still prefer blending to juicing, but I believe there can be a place for juicing in a raw-food program. I only recommend vegetable juices - not fruit drinks. The sugar in fruit juices is absorbed prematurely when separated from the fiber that comes with it once the fruit is eaten whole.

How you can drink juices

Green vegetable juices in small quantities can be very beneficial, but avoid drinking vast amounts of juices. Several glasses are enough. The strong green juices could be diluted with the milder vegetables: fennel, celery, etc. Some carrot, beet or apple may be used as a flavoring, but not as the main ingredient. The juice can also be diluted with water.

When I make vegetable juices, I often add the pulp to the juice. Things i usually do is drink about 70% of the juice, and then add all of those other juice back with the pulp. I often eat this mix with some chopped up tomatoes and avocado. I find this quite delicious and satisfying!

Smoothies and blended foods

I believe blended foods to be superior to juices. For this reason, I recommend the consumption of green smoothies. Blended foods are great for getting a concentrated meal that's ready in one minute. You can combine a bunch of fruit and greens with a few water and create a tasty "green" smoothie that could be enjoyed anytime as a meal. This is better than juice because you get the fiber, which is an essential nutrient.

The fiber in vegetables and fruit is in the food for a lot of reasons. And "wholesome" means just that: whole. Whole foods are foods as they are found in nature, without a penny added or removed. In our modern world, juicing is a concession that must be used in moderation. Sticking with whole foods is always better.

Carrot juice

Advocates of carrot juice are numerous. I've nothing against carrots. No one ever showed me sufficient proof that carrots might be dangerous to our health. Carrots are a perfectly respectable root vegetable. But To be sure that drinking large quantities of carrot juice is detrimental. But the same goes for any juice: apple, orange, etc. All of the benefits attributed to carrot juice might be surpassed by a simple diet of fruits and vegetables.
