Home staging tips for recreation rooms and basements

The recreation room or bonus room comes in many flavors: In certain cases, it is the resting spot for old furniture and in others it supports the laundry center or even the pull-out couch for guests and also the kids' sleepovers. It may be a music or game or rumpus room, and it is usually the most cluttered and lived-in room of the house.

Staging nightmare: A part of an attractive 4,000-square-foot home that were built with a formal family room along with a living room, the living area we imagine must be distinguished like a special recreational space.

Staging solution: Joanne O'Donnell, CSP, of Chic Home Interiors talked using the homeowners about several possibilities for that room, including bringing in a rented billiard table. The homeowners fell so in love using the idea that they chose to purchase this beautiful table for his or her new house and employ it for staging while this home was on the market. O'Donnell also added two comfortable leather chairs arranged around a chess table, along with a flat screen television to accomplish the area.

Get a game board being an accessory. A pleasant chess or checkers set sets the atmosphere for family fun. A rec room or finished basement is really a real selling feature, although not when the basement is dark and depressing. You can get more buyers looking forward to the home by turning a finished basement right into a well-staged multifunctional room. If your rec room doubles like a laundry room, partition from the dryer and washer. Oriental screens give a functional partition but still allow light to filter through.

Color on the walls raises the mood of the room, and if you have windows in the basement, clean them until they sparkle. Lights are another mood maker, so remove any existing fluorescent lights, that are harsh and add unattractive light towards the room.

Give a table and lamp or lamp beside a reading chair. Place furniture for entertaining and also to highlight the focus of the room, then hang art and accessorize while you would to some living room. Remove all clutter. Pack up early and donate whatever you don't wish to move along with you to Habitat ReStores.
