Back to My Mac is a service that allows you to access your MacBook computer from other computers if this feature is enabled on both machines. You can share files or turn on screen sharing from this tab.
In order for Back to My Mac to work, your router needs to have NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) enabled. If you receive an error, you will need to refer to your router documentation to find out how to enable NAT-PMP or UPnP.
Use the other buttons on the tab to enable file sharing and to turn on Wake for Network Access, which allows you to “wake” your sleeping MacBook when you want to access it remotely from another computer. For more information on Back to My Mac, click the ? button in the lower-right corner to access Mac Help.
Once you’ve synced your information with MobileMe, you can access applications like Mail and Calendar through Me.com. Open Safari (or the browser of your choice) and go there now.
You’ll be presented with a login screen. Enter your MobileMe username and password to log in and you’ll be directed to the mail screen. From there, assuming you’ve synced your contacts, you can send e-mail using your MacBook Address Book and access other applications like your calendars and MobileMe Gallery.
If you use Mail as your primary e-mail program, MobileMe Mail won’t look that much different. You can do all of the same things as you can in Mail: create folders, compose e-mails, save drafts, and integrate with other programs.
Click the Compose New Message button (the pad of paper and pencil icon). In the composition window, click the Address Book icon to access your synced contacts. You can select which recipients to add to your message.
You can also just start typing the first few letters of the person’s name and, if they are in your Contacts, their name will appear in the address box for you to select them. Type up your e-mail and click Send. MobileMe will automatically sync this sent e-mail with your Mail program.
If you’re checking your e-mail online through MobileMe and just want to quickly reply to an e-mail you’ve received, you can use the Quick Reply feature. Click the Quick Reply arrow next to the e-mail and the Quick Reply box will open. Type in your reply and click Send. There’s no need to open the e-mail!
