An iPod is a must have for those who seek entertainment on the move. It is a smart and stylish product from Apple which stores a huge number of songs, videos, games, audio books, documents and more. The iTunes interface lets your computer interact with an iPod, thus helping you in updating with new songs and content. Moreover, you can visit iTunes store and purchase songs. All these novel and interesting features have made an iPod as the preferred digital media player. But, at times you may encounter several problems while updating your iPod. For instance, iTunes becoming unresponsive, iPod errors, corrupt iPod disk and more. All these issues can, however, be fixed if you restore an iPod. But, this has its own disadvantages. Restoration deletes all the data stored onto an iPod and sets its back to default factory settings. In such situations, you can retrieve lost iPod data from a clean and updated backup. And, if no backup is available, you must try using an iPod recovery software.
Consider a scenario, wherein, you connect your iPod to a computer to add new songs and videos, and you get the following error message:
"iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)."
When you try to disconnect the iPod, you get another error message which goes like:
"Windows - Corrupt File: The File or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesDb is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility."
Cause
The above error clearly tells that the iPod's disk has become corrupt. And, in order to rectify the errors, you have to adopt certain iPod recovery measures, discussed in the later part of this article.
Resolution
You can observe the following steps in order to fix a corrupt iPod:
· Connect your iPod to computer
· Go to My Computer
· Right-click your iPod
· Go to Properties>Tools
· Click Check Now, this option will check it for errors
· After it gets finished, Start iTunes
· Update iPod, once it displays in iTunes
Updating simply updates the software that controls iPod and does not affect the iPod data. If you are still not able to overcome the problem, then restore the iPod. As restoring iPod erases all the iPod content, make sure to acquire a backup to compensate the data loss. Alternatively, you can also try using a third-party iPod recovery software.
Such tools employ improved scanning algorithms and retrieve data from a restored iPod.
