Once you’ve created an iMovie project, you can share it, upload it to the Internet, or transfer it to your iPod or iPhone.
Before you can begin, you will need to create a new iMovie project:
You can use video and still images in your projects that differ in aspect ratio. Just select the most appropriate format for the majority of the video and then later you can crop or otherwise edit the varied media if you don’t like how it appears in the end project.
You can add video from a single event or from multiple events to your project. Video clips are combined within your project in the order that you add them, but you can always edit the video later to rearrange the clips and add more elements like music and effects.
What better way to add ambience and mood to your movie than through the use of a great soundtrack? With iMovie’s help, you can score your film with your favorite songs from iTunes or use iMovie and iLife sound effects to liven things up. While your project is open, select Window > Music and Sound Effects or press command-1. Browse through the sources and select the songs or sound effects that you want to add. Drag them to the background of your project. Avoid dragging the songs onto clips; aim for the space around the video.
After you’ve added music, a green background appears behind the video clips. The background indicates how long the music is relative to the video clips. If the video ends before the music, a music indicator appears at the last clip. To trim the music to better fit your video, click the green background and then choose Edit. If you want to learn more about adding music and sound effects, open iMovie Help and search for Enhancing Audio.
Once you’ve completed your epic cinematic masterpiece, you’ll want to share it! You can use iMovie to export your movie to YouTube or to a MobileMe account, or you can export it to a file and then upload it or e-mail it whenever you want. Here’s how to export your project to a file.
If you want to export your project as a QuickTime movie, use the Share > Export Using QuickTime option.
