You can make short movies with QuickTime. Open the QuickTime application and choose File > New Movie Recording. QuickTime will use your MacBook’s internal microphone and iSight camera to record your clip unless you have external devices installed. Click the Stop button to stop recording.
If you’ve spent much time online, you’ve probably come across some video tutorials. You can use QuickTime to record your movements around your computer screen and then share the files. Say, for example, that you want to show someone how you performed a task in iPhoto. You can open QuickTime and go to File > New Screen Recording.
A new dialog box appears, asking if you are sure that you want to record and instructing you how to stop recording. Click Start Recording and the window will close so that you have an unobstructed view of your screen.
Of course, you don’t have to download video files or watch them online; your MacBook is a full-fledged DVD player too. You don’t have to do anything special to watch a DVD on your computer; just insert the DVD into your DVD drive slot. Once inserted, the DVD player will open and your DVD will begin.
Use your mouse to make selections from the DVD menu or to use the DVD Player Controller. You can also purchase the Apple Remote Control and use that to control the DVD player. Change the size of the window from the View menu. When you’re done watching, you can drag the DVD icon on your desktop to the Trash or you can click the Eject button on the controller. If your keyboard has an eject key, you can press that to eject a disc as well.
When you first open iTunes, the iTunes Setup Assistant starts. The Assistant will search your computer for music files to import to your library. Depending on how many music files you have, this could take a while. Let it finish the search and populate the main screen.
While iTunes has imported all of the media currently on your hard drive, you can always add more. If you place a music CD into your optical drive, you will be prompted to import the tracks into iTunes. Likewise, you can also purchase tracks or whole CDs from the iTunes store and add them to your collection
If you’ve downloaded music to your hard drive from the Internet or perhaps from a jump drive, you can also add those files. Click the File menu and select either Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library. In the dialog box, browse to the location on your computer where the file or folder is located that you want to import. Select it and then click Choose Folder (or File), and after the importation process is complete, the tracks will appear in your Music library.
