Why should you think of including blogging in your search engine marketing strategy? Feeding fresh blog content to your website has an advantage: All that fresh blog content gets eaten up by Google and also the other search engines.
They just love blog posts, and that will improve your standing in those search results.
This love of blog posts is something relatively new in the search world. In years past, the search engines only indexed traditional web pages, but lately Google and its peers have started accepting Nourishes and indexing those feeds.
Allowing them index much fresher content than is usually available from relatively static web pages, and fresher content is a good thing when you're searching.
What goes on, then, is Google and Yahoo! and Bing and the rest now display relevant blog posts when someone conducts a search. If your blog contains information highly relevant to a given search, odds are that post will show up in the search results.
And that i mean in the main search results. That's not how it's been. Google, for example, accustomed to not display blog results on its main search results page, instead choosing a separate Google Blog Search page and results.
Now, however, Google displays blog posts within the same search results because they do web pages. It's what Google calls universal search, although it's really universal (or unified) results, but who's to argue?
The thing is, when you maintain a fresh and relevant blog, you increase your chances of popping up in those search results. Let's say you sell baby food, and your website is all about baby food, and your blog contains posts about baby food.
When a curious mother searches Google for "baby food," it's possible that both your main web page and your blog page will show up in the search results.
That's two slots on the results page, which more or less doubles your likelihood of generating a click through. In short, a blog offers the opportunity to occupy multiple search results for the same query. Sweet.
