A suitably planned span of dietetic treatment, in addition to suitable exercise along with other measures for promoting elimination may be the only scientific approach to dealing with obesity. The main consideration in this treatment should be the balanced selection of foods which offer the most essential goodness while using least quantity of calories. To begin with, the person should to see a juice fast for seven to 10 days.
Juices of lemon, grape fruit, orange, pineapple, cabbage, celery, may be taken during this time period. Long juice fast as much as 40 days may also be undertaken, but only under expert guidance and supervision. In the alternative, short juice fasts should be repeated at regular intervals of 8 weeks approximately before desired reduction in weight is achieved.
Following a juice fast, the person should spend one more 4 or 5 days by having an all-fruit diet, taking three meals of fresh juicy fruits for example oranges, grapefruit, pineapple and papaya. Thereafter, he may gradually begin a low-calorie well- balanced diet of three basic recommended food groups, namely (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables and (iii)fruits, with concentrate on raw fruits, vegetables, and fresh juices.
The meals which should be drastically curtailed or altogether avoided are high-fat foods for example butter, cheese, chocolates, cream, ice-cream, fat meats, foods that are fried, and gravies; high carbohydrate foods like bread, candy, cake, cookies, wholegrain cereal, legumes, potatoes, honey, sugar, syrup and rich puddings beverages for example all-fountain drinks and alcoholic drinks.
Raw vegetable juices, especially carrot juice, taken separately or in conjunction with juices of beets and cucumbers, is extremely valuable in overcoming fatigue. The formula proportions considered helpful in the combination juice of 500 ml are carrot 300 ml and beet and cucumber 100 ml each.
The person should avoid depending on an energy lift, on crutches for example taking aspirin, tranquillisers as well as other drugs, drinking coffee or alcohol, smoking, eating some sugar or sweets. They provide merely a temporary boost which is quickly and then a downward plunge follows, leaving the sufferer worse than before.
