MacBook Mail includes stationery templates

Use e-mail stationery

E-mail stationery is sort of like regular stationery except it's electronic. Stationery templates are included in a number of e-mail programs, and Mail is no different. You can access some of the great templates that Apple has included by clicking the Show Stationery button on the e-mail message toolbar.

Browse through the options until you find the stationery that appeals to you, and then click on the stationery option to apply it. You can then write your e-mail by selecting the dummy text and typing over it. Send it as you would any other e-mail. Assuming that the recipient's e-mail program supports HTML, they will be able to view your lovely e-mail just as you sent it.

You can search online for more stationery templates that you can use with Mail. Some are free, whereas you may have to pay for others. Just make sure that you carefully read the system requirements so that you know your version of Mail is compatible, and read the installation instructions for installing the template correctly for use. You can also create your own templates by designing an e-mail and then selecting File > Save As Stationery.

Add Photos and Attachments

You can easily add photos to your e-mail and send them all over the world. Click the Photo Browser button on the e-mail message toolbar to select photos from your iPhoto library or elsewhere on your computer and add them. Once you have added your photos to your e-mail message, you can set their size by using the Image Size pop-up menu at the bottom of your e-mail message.

You can click the Email button in iPhoto to start an e-mail message in Mail with your selected photo already attached. You can also drag photos from iPhoto into a Mail message to attach it.

You can also add other types of attachments, like Word documents, text files, applications, movie files, and more. To add an attachment, click the Attach button and browse your computer for the file that you want to attach. Click the item to select it, and then click Choose File to add it to your e-mail. You can also drag files into your message, just like you can with iPhoto pictures.

You can use Quick Look to view some supported attachments in e-mails that you receive. Select the attachment and click the Quick Look button to preview the attachment without actually opening it. This works with photos too. If you aren't sure what type of computer the recipient of your attachment is using, or if you know they are using a Windows PC, make sure to select the Send Windows-Friendly Attachments check box so that they can read it.

ISPs set different limits for the types of files that they allow to be sent and received and for the size of those files. Some ISPs will not allow executable files (.exe), such as programs, to be sent or received. If your file is too big for an ISP, you will also receive an error message or returned e-mail message.

Read RSS Feeds

Just as in Safari, you can read RSS feeds in Mail. To add a feed, click File > Add RSS Feeds. This opens a window where you can choose the feeds that you've already subscribed to in Safari, or you can add new ones by entering the RSS feed address. Once added, your RSS feeds will appear in the sidebar along with other mailboxes that you've created. Each feed will have its own mailbox. Select an RSS message just as you would an e-mail message and its contents will appear in the preview window. Double-click the article to read it in a new window.

Use Text to Speech

One really cool feature of Mail is that you can have your MacBook read your e-mail aloud. This is great if you are busy multitasking or just want to relax while Mail does your work for you. It works pretty well for sight-impaired people too. Open your e-mail in a new window by double-clicking it in your Inbox. Click Edit > Speech > Start Speaking and your MacBook will read your message to you (including the headers). When you get tired of hearing robotic voices, you can click Edit > Speech > Stop Speaking to turn it off again.
