Mini Digital TV: The Advanced Version of Technologies

Mini digital TV are the advanced version of technologies through which users can bring HDTV to their desktop or laptop computers. The main purpose of this article is to describe the more popular former meaning of the Mini Digital TV, which is found in the market in the form of USB (Universal Serial Bus) or ExpressCard kits, packing a tuner, antenna and software to get free, unencrypted, over-the-air HDTV broadcasts directly on your desktop or laptop computer.

These days, mini digital TV hardware seem to be compact with a variety of models no larger than a standard USB thumb drive. The local over-the-air TV signals are received by a miniature tuner found in these gadgets. In some models of these widgets, FM radio broadcasts work. With the help of coaxial cabling, a diminutive HDTV antenna attaches to the USB or ExpressCard hardware. Now software scans are done for broadcasts and later record them to the hard drive. This gives the users an experience of turning their computer systems into a personal video recorder (PVR).

Windows® Media Center software is the perfect solution for compatible mini digital TV hardware. Sometimes users have to include software. Different models have unique features. However, the common features are to pause live TV and replay several seconds of just-aired material. With the help of these features, users can get an opportunity to re-watch a sports play or to catch missed dialog. These widgets are also incorporated with scalable screen capability through which users can avail a kind of "picture-in-picture" functionality for multitasking. Users can continue their surfing or working on the computer after placing the broadcast in the lower right corner.

If users record, free-to-air HDTV broadcasts to the hard disc, then it means that it consumes roughly three gigabytes of storage for every thirty minutes of HD recording. There are also compression options that can be added by the users to record programs for playback on stylish and portable devices like the iPod®. Users can avail various software packages online. Some of them are free and open-source.

A mini digital TV allows its users to experience a number of channels. It depends on the availability of local free-to-air broadcasts.
