Remote Control Cars: Life in the Miniature Fast Lane

No matter what you collect, whether it is comic books, sports cards, dolls, or little trinkets, chances are, most of what people collect for their hobby is just stuff that will sit there in a display for people to look. For those enjoy cars and toys, there is a hobby that caters to both groups. That hobby is RC vehicles (remote control cars, boats, trucks, airplanes and helicopters.) You can put these models in a display to put up for others to look at like you do most other collectibles, or you can actually take them out and play with them.

There are many different kinds of remote control vehicles out there on the market. One of the more popular kinds, the remote control car, has been around for decades. The first model seen was made by an Italian company and was based on a Ferrari in 1966. In the 1970's, these models were seen in the US for the first time. In the 80's, an electric racer was created. The electric model car soon became the most popular type, and still is to this day. Mainly because they are so simple to use, most people choose to start with them.

Unlike the gas powered remote control cars, the electric ones don't make a mess and are not as noisy. It has its downsides though, as it will only run for about 10 minutes before it needs to be charged again for 15 minutes. Luckily, if you have an extra battery pack, you can just switch them out when one gets low on power then you won't miss any driving time. Also, the electric RC cars don't perform as well as the gas powered ones. If you get one that doesn't seem to have enough power, you can always upgrade the engine later.

If an electric car isn't doing it for you, there are gas powered remote control cars out there. They are usually for more advanced racers though since they require more maintenance than the electric kind, and due to the gas, they can also make a bigger mess. However, the speeds can get up to 60-80 mph and time to refuel is quick. The experience seems more realistic though, with the sound of the screaming engine and the smell of the smoke from the exhaust.
