The Chanter class is one of the subclasses of the game Aion. But before going into the details of the Chanter class, lets take a look at what Aion is for those who don't know. Aion is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG for short. The game was released in South Korea on November 28, 2008 and it was the first country to get a final release of the game. It was released in China on April 16, 2009. Up until May 2009 the game was known as "Aion: The Tower of Eternity", but for the September 2009 North America release the game went under the one-word title of Aion.
The game is centered on a story of three factions created by a God named Aion who ruled a world called Atreia. The three factions are the Balaur who was original called the Draken, until they rebelled against Aion, the Seraphim Lords and the Shedim Lords who were once the Empyrean Lords, who created a barrier to keep the Balaur from attacking the people of Atreia. Ten of the Empyrean Lords went off on a battle with the Balaur and the battle lasted for hundreds of years. Two of the Empyrean Lords stayed in Atreia to guard the Tower of Eternity, thought to be the physical embodiment of Aion.
When an attempt at peace to end the battle with the Balaur went bad, the two Guardians of the Tower of Eternity sacrificed their lives to protect Atreia. The tower, along with the world was split in two. The ten remaining Empyrean Lords parted ways and became the Seraphim Lords and the Shedim Lords. The five Empyrean Lords that was against the peace talks with the Balaur became the Shedim Lords and ruled over the Asmodians on the dark side of the world. The remaining five Empyrean Lords who became the Seraphim Lords ruled over the Elyos on the light side of the world. Both side, now enemies battle each other and the Balaur for control of the Tower of Eternity.
The game has four primary classes, and eight specialized classes, two for each of the primary. Each player starts by choosing one of the primary classes. When the player reaches level 10, they must choose from one of the two specialized classes associated with their primary class. This will give the players a feel for the play style of that class before making a decision which class to play for the remainder of the game. The primary classes are Warrior, Scout, Mage and Priest.
The Chanter class, as well as the Cleric class, is a subclass of the Priest class. The Priest class specializes in healing magic and melee fighting. They are capable of engaging in melee combat and can use long-range spells to help in healing and protecting their allies as well as hindering their enemies. Chanters use mantras, which is one of their buffs, to strengthen their allies and raise their morale. By infusing their allies with their fierce discipline, duty and faith, they can become powerful enough to affect the outcome of a whole battle. Chanters can also use a staff in battle.
As mentioned earlier one of the Chanter's weapons is the magic staff. Using the staff a Chanter can transform into a soldier and fight at close range using the magic staff. The staff increases your success when parrying. Another one of their weapons is the mace. This weapon is used to fight off enemies in melee battle and can increase magic abilities. Buffs like increasing running speed, defense and attack power are also powerful weapons of the Chanter. The shield allows a Chanter to become a tank if needed.
Some of the advantages of choosing the Chanter are in solo play when there is not another healer around a Chanter can be both healer and buffer. They can have up to 3 aura buffs at one time, which can include increased group run speed, physical and magical defense, physical and magical offence, and a Heal over Time aura for a good amount of health. Not only can they buff their own abilities they can also buff their allies. They can also apply debuffs to the enemy for negative effects like flight speed reducer, and several defense reducers. Because of their recovery magic, a Chanter can take part in combat with very little pause between fights.
There are also disadvantages to being a Chanter. Some of the disadvantages of being a Chanter are that their heals can be cancelled. The highest armor they can wear is chain armor, which is the second strongest after plate armor. Also when players in the group are taking on a lot of damage Chanters' heals doesn't work as well as Clerics. They don't have many attack skills that can defeat an enemy quickly so when fighting multiple opponents, they can encounter some trouble due to low attack power. Although they have mantras for strengthening a group they have a short range making it necessary for a Chanter to place itself where its group will get the most benefit from them. In a long fight, the Chanter could run out of mana to cast heals causing the battle to end in defeat.
To be a Chanter you have to learn how to mix and match your buffs as well as your attacks and debuffs in different situations. You may find that learning to time your cool downs, mix and match abilities, and keeping an eye on your health makes mastering the Chanter class very hard. But you will also find that it makes being a Chanter much more fun to play.
