For more than a half century, George Davidsohn and his son Joseph have changed the way that Wall Street looks at their processes by developing new technologies and services that streamline business and improve regulatory compliance.
Two of the most powerful people in the financial services industry are a father and son you may have never heard of until now. But for more than half a century, the Davidsohn name has been synonymous with creating some of the most complex and comprehensive brokerage processing services in the industry along with other breakthroughs in financial services software.
George Davidsohn made a name for himself in the mid-1950s by designing back-office systems for Dean Witter. By allowing for the automatic processing of securities transactions and other back-office functions, Davidsohn was able to help Dean Witter quadruple their daily trade volumes. This success led him to start his own company - Davidsohn Computer Services, Inc. - which grew to provide technology for almost all of Wall Street before it was sold and eventually acquired by Automated Data Processing.
George Davidsohn went on to work with his son Joseph at George Davidsohn & Son and now Davidsohn Global Technologies, Inc. Like his father, Joseph Davidsohn has established a reputation as an innovator, pushing for the implementation of new "software on demand" elements that allow firms access to key financial applications such an advanced securities settlement system with little or no investment of capital resources in hardware. This gives enhanced flexibility to firms while also improving their return on investment.
Currently, the Davidsohns are in the final stages of developing their fourth-generation back-office solution that will include advanced electronic securities processing along with other features designed to streamline the back office process and bring firms into compliance with the changing regulatory landscape.
